Social Ministries

The congregation of First Lutheran supports the Kossuth County Food Pantry. A monthly monetary donation is given and we have a grocery cart available for food donations.

Each Spring and Fall several members of First Lutheran walk and clean up a two-mile stretch along Highway 18.

A new service project First Lutheran began in 2003 is the collection of surplus and used, but serviceable, medical supplies from our local hospital, clinic and physicians. These supplies are then transported to Global health Ministries in Minneapolis.

Each November, the Social Ministry Committee of First Lutheran adopts several families from the Kossuth County Relief Office. Lists of wants and needs are distributed and member help fulfill the wishes of families in need.

The first Sunday of October is designated as CROP Walk day. Members of First Lutheran, as well as several other area churches, participate in this yearly event to help fight hunger in our community and the world.

All quarters that are in the weekly offering are designated for World Hunger. Since its inception in August of 2001 over $8,500 has been received! Many members find this a quick and easy way to help fight World Hunger.

The First Lutheran Sunday School financially sponsors a child from India each year through the ELCA Division for Global Mission. Offerings taken from the second Sunday of each month help provide the yearly financial support we give.
